The team at Balanced Beans are excited to share news of the launch of an important organisation in our community.
MADA – Maitland Against Domestic Abuse Committee was established in 2023 with the commitment to raise funds and awareness for domestic violence in the Maitland LGA and surrounds.
MADA is not a crisis or support service. Rather, it comprises a group of volunteers whose focus is educating the community about domestic abuse and providing a central resource listing services and supports available, in addition to raising funds for those providers.
Balanced Beans has been involved since the call for volunteers first went out; our director Brodie White has joined the committee as the inaugural treasurer.
We also look forward to getting behind MADA in other ways such as participating in the Move for MADA event scheduled for 2024.
We encourage all Maitland businesses to visit the MADA website at www.mada.org.au, learn more about domestic abuse and share the resource where appropriate.
It is estimated that 1 in 4 women (27%), and 1 in 8 men (12%) in Australia have experienced violence by an intimate partner or family member since the age of 15 years. Source: ABS Personal Safety Survey 2021-22. Initiatives such as MADA help put the spotlight on this issue at a local level.
